The Dish with DDR: Backstage with INGLOT at Cristina Ruales NYFW SS16

Spring 2016 is all about clean, flawless skin and metallic eyes that vow to wow! Pro Director and Pro Artist Mahasin Phillips, for INGLOT Cosmetics USA, who was also the key artist for the Cristina Ruales fashion show, drew inspiration for the look from the designer’s spring collection, which is chock-full of neutrals and silvers. Phillips wanted the focus to be on beautiful, porcelain skin with a striking eye. She kept the lip a “healthy nude” and cheeks were simply kept natural with no color.

Beautiful skin is always about how well the skin is prepped. It’s so crucial to moisturize skin before any makeup application because it awakens and smoothes your skin to achieve the best makeup application. Once the face is moisturized, use the Mattifying Under Makeup Base to start creating a porcelain type skin effect. This base is great for evening out any fine lines, and giving a velvety feel to your skin. Then Phillips used the New Stick Foundation to provide effective coverage and hide any skin discoloration or other imperfections. While I watched Phillips create this gorgeous skin I noticed how well the foundation seemed to blend seamlessly into the skin. (This product is going in my kit for sure!) I also love that it can be used just for face contouring, and, because of it’s long lasting coverage, great for stage or theatre makeup as well.

Next up, the striking metallic silver eye. The eye focus was soft yet brilliant. First, Phillips applied Eye Shadow Keeper to ensure the silver pigment DID NOT MOVE. Then she applied AMC Pure Pigment Eye Shadow in #23   by adding a drop or two of Duraline to yield the right texture to create a silver colored lid base. Once she applied and blended that mixture all over the lid and the lower lash line, she created the dynamic eye by applying the same highly concentrated, silver loose powder to intensify the look.  It is a very delicate balance between the two custom formulations that was wonderfully executed by Phillips and her team.

On to the lips. Who doesn’t love a nude lip?! Phillips used the Freedom System Lipsticks  in the perfect nude shade to suit the model’s skin tone and then added just a hint of AMC Lip Gloss in shades #542/546 to get the perfect pout.

Look accomplished.

Between the gorgeous green outdoor space at  The Out New York Hotel and the beautiful makeup, I quickly felt spring fever in Midtown Manhattan. And it isn’t even officially fall yet!

Lots of love from NYFW!
