DIVA DISH: Lux Life

DIVA DISH: Lux Life

Is it possible for a DIY at-home mani to last a full week?

Hell if I know. I’m too busy bouncing off the walls that mine lasted ALL WEEKEND.

As a makeup artist, I’m constantly digging through my pro kit, opening boxes of new product and unwrapping impossibly difficult albeit beautiful packaging. I’ve also just moved from Nolita in Manhattan to Williamsburg in Brooklyn so there’s all the furniture to assemble plus the endless cycle of organization, reorganization and cleanup. To say I’m hard on my hands is a total understatement. I can’t keep a fresh manicure chip-free for more than a few hours max. I’m the girl who gets a nick on the way home from the nail salon.

So while I was really excited when CND’s VINYLUX arrived for testing, I wasn’t sure whether it would really deliver on its promise for someone who’s basically the antithesis of delicate.

What’s its promise, you wonder?

CND Vinylux is a two-step system where you first apply a base coat or two of Vinylux color polish, then seal it with a special Vinylux top coat once dry. No special heat or lamp is required. Natural light secures the chip-resistant effect for a week.

There are 70 gorgeous shades currently on the site.

And this is no thin, watery formula. The polish glides on and a single coat feels like just under two of a regular polish. It wasn’t overly-thick either. I found it very easy to apply. Same held true for the top coat.

So without further adieu, here’s the longwear lacquer in a fiery red shade called Wildfire. Monday will be day 4 and it’s pretty perfect still.

I can get used to this lux life.

Oooooo! Love hearing about new nail polish brands – what are your thoughts on this one versus the Zoya ones (which I am seriously 110% loyal to ever since you intro’d me to them!)?

I love the Zoya. LOVE. But that looks and behaves like regular (high quality) polish. For example it chips like regular polish whereas this sort of peels off after time. It lifts like a gel, and in general looks and feels and acts like a gel mani. Just doesn’t last as long as a salon gel mani. Hope that helps!
