There are certain things that are best done live and in person.

On the list – saying you’re sorry, finding jeans that fit you perfectly, falling in love, hearing your favorite band, going to college, picking the right undergarment for an outfit, catching a fashion show.

Of course all of these things can now be done online, but are they ever as good?

Are they ever as satisfying as the real thing??

Maybe it’s just me, but I think I’d always feel I was missing out on something from the virtual experience alone.

This was my bias when I was initially approached by GlassesUSA to test their site.

Because honestly if I wore prescription glasses every day, best believe I would want to try on a million pairs in a store til I fell in love with the absolute perfect one to complement my face and fashion sense.

But I don’t.

So I called in an equally skeptical (and supercute) tester.

Here is his experience with the site that offers name-brand prescription glasses and sunglasses for both men and women.

“I can be extremely picky about style and fit, and playing with a virtual mirror to pick my new glasses did not seem like it could be all that accurate. However, how could it hurt with a 100% satisfaction guarantee? If the frames looked great on an uploaded photo but not on me in a real mirror, I could simply return the glasses for a different pair.

I decided to start with GlassesUSA‘s personality test. To be fair, GlassesUSA is not posturing itself as the eyeglasses match.com, but the personality test is pretty basic… dividing users into one of four categories I’ll call classic, sport, trend or function. It wasn’t necessarily comprehensive but GlassesUSA’s conclusion about me did help to aggregate some potential candidates from their plethora of styles.

With my prospects in front of me, I decided to take it to the next level and upload a picture and test the virtual try-on mirror. I will preface this with the fact that I have a unique face that does not fit most glasses. Still I virtually perused and picked out a couple Dunhill and Kenneth Cole frames to “try on.”  It took me all of two minutes to pick my frames, and surprisingly, the virtual mirror was an incredible help.

Frames in bag, I selected my lenses. (Note: This requires a recent prescription in hand.) Of course mine were slightly more expensive because when you’re as blind as I am you either pay for thin lenses or walk around with coke bottles. For another premium, I added on a uv-protective/anti-scratch/anti-reflective coating.

I selected the standard shipping option, and was given a tracking number to watch my glasses move over the next 3-5 days.

Five days later, my package arrived in the mail. And like a five- year-old on Christmas morning, I tore through the box.

One word: Wow!

The glasses looked better in person than online and fit my face perfectly. They are head and shoulders above the last pair I picked out in-person in-store. Plus, they were far less expensive and took a fraction of the amount of time to select.

I was kind of in disbelief.

I am incredibly happy with my new glasses and would definitely recommend this site to a friend, a family member, or any other blind bat like me.”
