DIVA DOES… Pink Friday. Intern Style.

DIVA DOES… Pink Friday. Intern Style.

By now, you’ve all seen Intern Trish on the site and read about her beauty faves and followed along as she’s created dramatic and natural makeup looks for us. Trish contributes remotely to DIVAlicious from college, so when she was in NY for winter break best believe I had her swing by BK for a little DIVA love.

Once in the DIVAlicious Beauty Studio, I asked her to choose a makeup look, any makeup look, and she requested “the works.”

As a professional makeup artist, I know full makeup can go in a million directions so I needed to get a little more clarity on exactly what kind of glam to give. Trish has expressed in the past that makeup for women with deeper skin tones can be challenging, as shade selection is limited. In fact, she dedicated her last post solely to foundations that are “brown-girl-friendly.” So we briefly chatted about face products but I had something in mind I wanted to try on her that I thought would be perfect. A pro product from my kit, but one that anyone can purchase. The conversation then shifted to color and I could tell Trish wanted to try something new, something unexpected. But Trish explained that while she loves color, she’s fearful that a lot of color or rather – bright, bold color could look… clownish [my word based on her description].

In that moment, I knew we were on to something.

With a little more probing, I gathered that Trish loves colors like fuchsia but didn’t think they could be wearable. Especially beyond the lips. I of course disagreed – I think that kind of color, especially against a backdrop of beautiful rich dark skin, is a total vision. So we agreed on hot pink blush to start. And as with the best makeup applications, that one choice inspired a total look and that total look ended up being UNBELIEVABLY GORGEOUS on Trish.

Best of all, as badass and beautiful as it was, the color did not wear Trish. She owned every bit of the look, as if she wore it every day.

And that, my friends, is why we call it DIVAlicious ;)

PS, these photos are all unretouched – no editing, no filters … but as we always say: #YESMAKEUP.

This is Trish pre-makeup, fresh-faced and natural.

Here’s the complexion product I wanted to test on her. Mehron Celebré Pro HD Makeup. I used Dark 4 on the outside of Trish’s face and Dark 3 on the inside (both in the last row) for ultra-subtle sculpting. Applied with Cle de Peau and MAC #130 brushes.

Viola! Face makeup in place and on point.

A dusting of powder, thanks to MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Dark Deep all over and Sunny by Nature on cheeks.

Moment of truth! Trish holding my It Cosmetics #4 brush with a healthy deposit of MAC Full Fuchsia blush on it. I’m about to apply it over her cheeks and she is really NOT SURE about all that.

BOOM! In love. What left to do but add MORE PINK??

This is (limited edition discontinued) MAC Cream Colour Base in Tickle Me Pink on the upper eyelid. (Pink Shock Cream Colour Base would also do or any creamy matte pink eyeshadow, lipstick or blush.)

Just an outer-corner color bump-up with the Full Fuchsia blush we used earlier.

Oh another layer of pink?? Don’t mind if we do. This one, courtesy of Make Up For Ever 12 Flash Color Case, adds the perfect feline flair.

To finish the look…. falsies!!! A perfect pair of fake lashes to add length and drama but not hide the work or color at the lashline. Plus, a sheer pink lip tint that adjusts to your unique lip tone: It Cosmetics Vitality Lip Flush in Je Na Sais Quoi.

So. So. Pretty. I can’t even stand it. #OBSESSED

We both kind of died over the final look and transformation.

Favorite Color Cosmetics Right Now:

I’ve been really into the dark vampy lip colors – such as my MAC Smoked Purple, Milani Blackcherry and Kat Von D’s  Vampira.

Favorite Makeup Brand:

I’m definitely getting into Kat Von D’s makeup line. My obsession started with her Poe lipstick, which is a dark blue color, and since then I’ve been really into her lip colors.  They are very pigmented and her liquid lipstick literally last all day.

Favorite Hair Product:

I love my Motions deep conditioner. It makes my hair soft and more manageable.

Favorite Skincare Product:

BAREMINERALS !!! Their skin care products are amazing. You can go from dull skin to glowing the next morning.  I would have to say my favorite is the Purely Nourishing Moisturizer. Moisturizing your skin has so many benefits, so that has to be my favorite.

Favorite Fragrance:

Victoria Secret’s Heavenly is the bomb.com!

Beauty Trick You Swear By:

Whenever someone complains about wanting to have longer lashes I always recommend using castor oil. Applying a small amount on your lashes at night works wonders!

Nude Lip Girl or Bold lip Girl:

Both! But I love standing out with a bold lip color.

No Makeup or Kardashian Contour:

Contour. All day, every day! Honestly, I don’t wear makeup everyday. On most days I probably look like a hot mess with sweats and no makeup… not even mascara. So when I do apply makeup I’m in full diva mode, with the makeup to match.

Beauty Icon:

Lupita Nyong’o is GORG! Words can’t begin to explain the level of beauty she has.  She is beautiful inside and out. I really related to her when she spoke about her experience with recognizing and accepting her beauty as a dark skinned women.

Style Icon:

This one goes to Rihanna. She is not everyone’s cup of tea but I love her fearlessness when it comes to fashion.

Stay tuned for more DIVA transformations and more from Intern Trish!!
