I recently attended an Aczone event at Uplift Studios NYC hosted by dermatologist, Dr. Whitney Bowe. Bowe broke down 4 ways to get rid of adult acne. If you do them all, you’ll achieve quicker, better results but each alone should positively impact your skin condition.
So without further adieu….
HOW TO GET RID OF YOUR STUBBORN ANNOYING RUDE ADULT ACNE
1. Wash your face EVERY NIGHT. Especially in the summer, when you likely have makeup, skin-blocking sunscreen and (gross) the environment on your face to remove before bed.
2. Try Aczone. Yes, Bowe represents the brand but she also believes in it. Here’s why. The topical treatment is for blackheads, whiteheads, and cystic red bumps. It absorbs quickly and is so light it can be layered under makeup. It’s super tolerable and non-irritating (unlike other Rx fixes) so it won’t cause sun sensitivity. And it can be applied to the face, chest and back for healthy, flawless, even summer skin.
3. Change your diet. Bowe was a pioneer in studies to disprove the original myth supported by the derm community that stated nutrition and acne were not linked. She personally experienced and saw otherwise in her patients. Her main findings: A low glycemic index diet will improve acne and the appearance of skin. And SHOCKING, as many think of it as a healthy option, avoid skim milk. Skim milk, according to Bowe, triggers acne more than any other form of dairy due to the whey and casein proteins added to thicken the watery liquid.
4. Manage stress. Bowe explained that oil glands are surrounded by stress receptors. So, in essence, stress causes those glands to pump out more oil and more oil leads to more breakouts. One easy way to minimize stress, according to Bowe, get better sleep!
And there you have it!
Here are some photos from the event, snapped by the ever-fab Jaclynn Brennan of Blazers & Bellinis…
(Wait… what AM I doing in this last shot??)
Wishing you all clear, beautiful, I-woke-up-like-this-FLAWLESS skin this summer!
