This post is the final in our 3-part series with makeup artist, beauty lover and author of Homemade Beauty, Annie Strole.
Today we are whipping up Annie’s Shea + Cocoa Butter Intense Hydrating Face Cream. Can I get an eff yeah??
If you haven’t been following along, watch my interview with Annie here to get a sense of what her philosophy and approach to homemade beauty is all about. Then check out her book so you can craft some of your own kitchen-made cosmetics.
THE BENEFITS
Annie considers her Shea & Cocoa Butter Intense Hydrating Face Cream to be the most hydrating, protective and pampering face cream ever. And due to its ingredients, it has a long shelf-life so you don’t have to stress about using all that all-natural goodness right away. Which makes it a great, thoughtful gift that you can package up in a unique and personalized container.
THE RECIPE
- 1/4 cup shea butter
- 1/4 cup cocoa butter
- 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
- 1/4 cup unrefined virgin coconut oil
Melt the shea and cocoa butter and coconut oil in a double boiler and remove from heat. Let cool for a half hour. Stir in olive oil and the essential oil of your choice. Chill your ingredients in the fridge until they partially solidify, and then whip with a hand-mixer until a creamy consistency is achieved. Package in a glass jar and apply after cleansing and toning.
THE VERDICT
This super-rich cream is more like a face oil once you emulsify the hardened ingredients with your fingers. So a little goes a long way in terms of its benefits and also its actual coverage on the face. It leaves skin super soft and with a great sheen – and also has a nice calming effect on my skin, so I use it after micro-needling (derma-rolling) or after a powerful mask or serum or face treatment.
It’s the kind of product you wouldn’t mind tasting even though it’s not exactly for consumption (hint hint, Valentine’s Day lovers or Tinder hookups).
And, as with all of Annie’s recipes that we tested for DIVAlicious, it smells INSANE in the best possible way.
