InternDIVA: Nubian Heritage H E A V E N

If you weren’t already aware, I am the QUEEN of skin ailments. Seeing that I have struggled with adult acne, eczema, chapped/dry skin, etc. – I think it’s safe to say, you name it, I’ve had it. Trying to find good, efficacious products for my highly sensitive skin has been a total hassle. Anyone who struggles with skin sensitivity to the extent that I have can understand how over-the-counter (not to mention overpriced) skincare products have the ability to not only break the bank, but our skin as well. Luckily, a genius brand has come to save the day (& our skin!!).

Nubian Heritage is the brainchild of Richelieu Dennis and Nyema Tubman, two New York street vendors straight out of college. In 1992, Dennis and Tubman embarked on a mission to produce all natural products using culturally authentic practices, along with certified organic and fair trade ingredients from around the world. Hundreds of products inspired by ancient healing philosophies are offered through this award winning brand. After a heaven-sent package of Nubian Heritage goodies from J9PR arrived at DIVAlicious headquarters, I was beyond ready to put these products to the test!!

Once discovering the wonders African Black Soap has done for my highly sensitive skin, I was eager to try out Nubian Heritage’s African Black Soap Body Wash and Lotion. I had high expectations for these products, considering how amazing the soap had worked for me, and I think it’s safe to say these products performed up to par!!

(Body wash retails for $12)

When it comes to washing my body, I tend to stay away from body washes. I’ve found that with certain scrubs and washes, the product is either too perfume-y and ineffective, or too potent and aggressive. However, this body wash was super gentle on my skin, but was also an effective exfoliator. My skin didn’t feel irritated by harsh chemicals and cheap ingredients, but rather refreshed and rejuvenated!

(Body lotion retails $13)

After stepping out of the shower, feeling “so fresh and so clean”, it was time to apply the body lotion. Most body lotions I have used in the past have been on the thinner side, taking around 2-3 bottle pumps in order to amount enough lotion to cover my arm or leg. However, this lotion was different. It actually surprised me how much more dense the consistency was compared to other products I have used (lesson learned – a little goes a long way). It seemed to take a little longer for the lotion to soak into my skin, but once it did, wow. My skin felt velvety smooth, and suuuuper hydrated! I absolutely loved this body lotion <3.

Soon after getting a whiff of this soap, there was no way I wasn’t going to test the Shea Butter Soap with Lavender and Wildflower myself (mind you, I am probably going to mention how amazing these products smell a million times, but they’re seriously amazing). Though I have great trust in Nubian Heritage products, I was a little worried to test anything but the black soap on my face, being that my skin is so prone to break outs. However, I took a chance and tried out some of the Shea Butter soap on my face. The soap washed just as beautifully as the African Black Soap (yasssss). Working outside all day, I know how important it is to wear SPF on my face, though a lot of the time facial sunscreens irritate my skin. Washing my face after a long day under the sun with this soap soothed my skin, leaving a healthy glow (& a phenomenal scent!!!).

While I myself have highly sensitive skin, not everyone in my family struggles in the same ways as I do in terms of their skin. We all tend to vary when it comes to skin types, and what our personal skin ailments are, so I figured what better way to bond with the fam than to have them help me test out these amazing products (full discolsure: it was extremely hard for me to openly share these products with anyone but myself…)!

Though she doesn’t struggle with adult acne, my Mom too has sensitive, dry skin (like Mother, like Daughter). She prefers to use products with all natural ingredients and no harsh chemicals. After seeing my amazing results from the magical bar of African Black Soap, she couldn’t wait to test a product from Nubian Heritage for herself!!

She tested out the Coconut & Papaya Soap with Vanilla Beans. Her results – f a b u l o s a.  She found that the soap rinses off effortlessly, and did not leave a lingering film on her face; her skin felt replenished with moisture. The soap sudsed up very quickly, and both the soap and body wash have a natural and pleasant scent. “It was a pleasure to wash with this soap. This was the first time in a long time I forgot to put moisturizer on afterwards, that is how fresh my skin felt!”

(Soap retails $4.49, Body wash retails $11.99)

Along with the soap, my Mom also wanted to check out the Coconut & Papaya Body Wash with Vanilla Bean. She was pleased to find that the body wash was just as capable at producing amazing results as the bar of soap. This product helped to soothe and renew my Mom’s sensitive skin (not to mention it includes an anti-aging, brightening and firming formula — AKA, right up her alley!).

Stamp of Approval from Mom – Check!

Fortunately for my brother, Jack hands-down has the best skin in the family – super smooth, little to no break outs, barely dry, etc. (the “golden child”). We decided he should test out the Lemon Grass & Tea Tree Lotion, which is both uplifting and brightening.

Regardless of having awesome skin, Jack was still able to appreciate this lotion’s formula. He too noticed the dense consistency, but also observed how hydrated and luminous his skin looked and felt after allowing the product to absorb (we can also both agree that this product smells out of this W O R L D). Jack gives this his full approval on this amazing smelling product (coming from a 16 year old boy, that is huge).

There was no way my Dad was getting out of this, and I felt the Lavender & Wildflowers Hand Cream would be the perfect product-fit for him! After working construction for 30+ years, my Dad’s hands have taken a serious beating. Calluses, blisters, rough cracks and cuts have left his hands in need of some assistance. This nutrient-rich hand lotion is long lasting, specially formulated with Lavender, cultivated by ancient Arabians as a versatile therapeutic botanical (ooh-la-la).

As you can see, my Dad gives this product a “thumbs-up”. He really liked that the hand lotion was not greasy, and soothed his irritated hands. The Wildflower extracts and Aloe Vera moisturize and help nurture tired hands and nails, and my Dad could definitely put that to good use!

Nubian Heritage body care products are truly the full package. Not only are they highly effective and chockfull of good-for-you products, they are also affordable. It isn’t easy to find quality products that are both effective and reasonably priced, but I thank the Skin Gods that I came across such an amazing brand!! These pampering body care products are available through retailers throughout the country, and I highly recommend this brand to anyone and EVERYONE!

Treat yo’self!
