Nearly 4 years after writing the original post, there’s still an undying interest on what to wear with leggings.
You guys just can’t get enough.
So for my leggings-obsessed readers, here are 5 Tops To Wear With Leggings. Fit for jeggings as well, of course, although the term didn’t exist in 2007.
The main takeaway for those who are still unsure is that you need to consider shape (tunic styles and draping, for example, work amazingly well) and length (leggings are typically made of thin cotton and without back pockets, so – novel thought – how about covering that ass?).
To stay current, consider leather leggings (most are thick enough for shorter tops) and skinny jean jeggings (also thicker and with pocket details – my fave is the Citizens of Humanity Avedon cut).
And yes, you can wear heels. Go for it! Just take cues from the top. If the top is sporty and casual like a draped tank or tee – or classic and preppy like a printed tunic – or sexy and daring like a body-skimming or plunge-neck blouse, pick the shoe that complements it. It’s no different than picking the perfect pump for a skirt or pant.
