The cold, brisk weather chaps our skin and creates dryness from head-to-toe. But, the heat drains us of moisture too! So we must infuse our bodies, but with the right ingredients for this time of year.
Guiding you now with a unisexxxy approach… so you are fresh to death year-round… I present my TOP 5 Summer Shower Essentials and my TOP 5 Summer Post-Shower Faves.
Spend less time in the shower and more time enjoying the outdoors! Get the most of a 10 minute rinse… by adding these products and tips into your regimen.
1. Begin with the Lush Brazened Honey Face Mask ($6.95)
Inspired by Ayurvedic principles, this mask from LUSH is soft enough to balance your skin’s foundation, while the honey and lime oil brighten the skin. The Kaolin clay will dig deep into pores to rid dirt and buildup, and smooth out impurities. My suggestion is to use this mask no more than 1-2 times per week.
2. Clean & Clear Foaming Facial Cleanser (available at local pharmacies for under $8)
For the days you do not masque, substitute with a refreshing face wash. Revigorating, purifying and formulated for all skin types.
3. John Frieda Color-Specific Shampoo & Conditioner ($6 each at Ulta)
Enhance natural highlights with this combo shampoo/ conditioner. Why not brighten the sun’s natural lightening of your hair and give a shine like no other! (Trust me, no social media filter is needed with continued use.)
4. Olay Soothing Cucumber Body Wash (available at local pharmacies for approximately $5)
I suggest the cucumber body wash as it is infused with natural oils from cucumber and avocado, combining rich moisture and a refreshing scent to your soft, supple skin.
5 Enter Coconut!
While the mask is working away, scoop some Nature’s Way Coconut Oil ($8.99) and begin to gargle. Continue this for the duration of your shower…another Ayurvedic tradition that will draw toxins from your body, thus promoting healthier oral hygiene and infuse oils into your skin for nourishment. Plus, after you rinse off the face mask, body wash and hair treatments completely, apply a very thin layer of Nature’s Way Coconut Oil to your face, body, and hair/scalp. I perform this step in the shower so the water will take away some of the residue. This practice secures moisture and softens the damage from heat and harmful sun rays.
POST SHOWER
6. Butter Up!
Coat your body with one of these two luscious butter creams…simply D*Lish for your body! My faves are Trader Joe’s ($4.99) and the ever-so luxurious lavender-scented bar from Sabon($18).
7. Clarins Double Serum ($85)
This innovative product prevents and reduces wrinkles (which yes, unfortunately the sun contributes to), while also boosting your skin with energy for its daily functions and adding a layer of protection against everyday toxins.
8. Clarins Golden Glow Booster ($30)
Adding three drops to your daily moisturizer will keep you with a sunkissed glow all year long. Start now and boost your bronze! It’s natural, healthy and promotes an even tan.
9. Olay Daily Moisturizer with SPF ($20.99)
One of my new favorites! This moisturizer is brilliantly packed with vitamins to nourish your parched skin and boost radiance and glow. This moisturizer promotes youthful skin with wrinkle and fine line reduction, and adds protection against both UVA and UVB sun rays! It covers it all!
10. LUSH Tea Tree Water ($9.95 3.3oz)
Refreshing. Toning. And oil controlling! You get all three with a quick spritz to seal the deal and kill bacteria from the natural oils, especially from sweat.
BONUS and DISCLAIMER: While I cannot suggest this is the safest practice, I personally have strong balance so as part of my multi-tasking shower process, I incorporate leg lifts. It’s like a free workout!
With just a ten minute shower and a few minutes post-rinse, you can do a face mask, oil pull, hair and body cleanse, replenish and restore moisture to skin and get great glow! Look at that you multi-tasker, you!
