Daily Diva: Retro Glam on Carly C

Daily Diva: Retro Glam on Carly C

Every time I see Carly Cardellino – the online beauty & fashion editor of Cosmopolitan and of course, DIVAlicious member!– I get in a serious abs session. We laugh so hard my core aches the next morning. So when I offered to do a new look on her for the site, it was secretly my way of also getting in a nighttime bikini-bod workout. (Something’s gotta balance all that sushi plus the adult beverages!)

And wouldn’t you know it, without a plan or a trend or an inspiration visual to speak of, I ended up whipping up this retro glam look for one of my beauty besties!

We kind of both DIED over it.

THE FACE. The look is rooted in flawless skin. A great primer followed by a sheer foundation followed by concealer (only over any tiny imperfections) followed by **cream** contour and highlight. No blush. It’s important for this look to only use (translucent) powder as a finisher.

THE EYES. Dust the full lid with a fleshtone shadow. Then mix matte browns and blacks and blend into the crease and outer corner. Run gel liner along the outer 2/3rds of the lashline and wing it up towards the tail of the brow. Finish by coating on that mascara. Don’t be shy!

THE LIPS. The pout really completes this look (and, by the way, that berry trend is not going ANYWHERE). The star product used was BITE High Pigment Matte Pencil in Pomegranate. Fun fact: Each BITE lip pencil contains the amount of resveratrol found in five glasses of red wine. We can all pucker up to that!

Now, I have to mention, I gave Carly a wool headband to keep her hair off her face during the application. It resulted in a bit of static once removed. This of couse only added to the comedy. But even in hysterics, this glamour girl pulled it together for these INSANELY BEAUTIFUL ”after pics.” Yeah, she’s a pro.

Sometimes the best makeup happens when you make it up as you go along. With a glass of wine. Or three.
