When I was a little girl and my grandfather explained that I would soon be spending most of my days away from him in a building with other children and a teacher, I was skeptical. We had a good thing going, Grandpa and me, and I wasn’t sure I was keen to spend my afternoons with children who may or may not share my affinity for Barbies and drawing flowers. After meeting my teacher, the icy and stern Mrs. Gooch, I was settled on my decision to call it quits. Just as I was about to grab my lunchbox and go, we were called to the recess line-up and I caught a glimpse of Jeff Mills in the line next to me.
Thus began what is now a long history of lash-batting.
These days, my flirtatious flutter is slightly more salacious–albeit less enthusiastic–and I am always looking for new ways to give my lashes a little extra kick. Being that I am no wallflower when it comes to what I wear (especially around my eyes) I need something bold. I am no one-coat wonder and I don’t wear flats, on my feet or my face. Suffice it to say, I want the over-the-knee , five-inch leather boots of mascara, without the price tag.
Imagine my surprise when I accidentally discovered L’Oreal Telescopic Shocking Extensions Mascara. Um, who doesn’t want shocking extensions? I bought one in blackest black and rushed home.
A little curling was all it took to prep, and after one coat, I could see a difference. Three coats gave me a faux lash effect that was all drama, no drag queen. I loved the no-clump factor and was thrilled at the fact that very little splattered on my lash line. The end result was an unapologetically long lash that was equal parts bold, strong and beautiful.
