My first Mercedes Benz Fashion Week experience was an absolute dream come true. From observing the runway to the perks at the tents, I found myself utterly star-stuck. Here are my top 3 favorite things I experienced at NYFW Spring/Summer 2014…
1. TECH CRAZE – One of the running themes at MBFW was creating a cohesive collaboration between technology and fashion. All the shows were available online via live-streaming throughout week, allowing anyone and everyone to witness the latest trends come to life in real-time. And as LDiva says – from their couch or their cubicle, it’s fashion for the people. Technology was ever-present at the tents as well – in the form of awesome perks. Reel Code Media developed a cool new app that raised the standard for QR codes – by creating them in the form of beautiful images (not bar codes). The cooler part? When scanned via their app, these codes gave a behind-the-scenes look at NYFW. Samsung also offered free, personalized, engraved cell phone case swaps for anyone who had a Samsung Galaxy. Not only that, but there were free battery swaps for those running low from too many tweets, hashtags, instagrams…you know the drill.
2. PRESS PERKS – Mercedes-Benz, TRESemme, Samsung, Style Network, and WGSN all offered Lincoln Center lounges with aesthetically pleasing, ultra-comfy seating – even outdoors. There were power-up stations for efficient charging, Wi-Fi access all-around, and best of all, lots of free drinks for in-between shows: Cool, refreshing Beck’s Sapphire Beer, crisp Glaceau SmartWater, creamy Illy coffees, and sweet Lifeway Lowfat Kefir.
3. EYE CANDY – And what would fashion week be without the fashion?!? Aside from the indescribably amazing looks on the runway (KaufmanFranco SS14, anyone??), pretty much everyone who walked past the doors at the tents was impeccably dressed. From the eccentric bloggers in their tutus to gentlemen in suits with the finest lines I’ve ever seen, there were outfits that continuously wowed the eyes. Not to mention, gorgeous shoes and chic bags galore. There were also those who delved into the season’s beauty trends, with flawless matte skin and eye-catching lip color that was to die for.
This has been a week I will never forget. I mean, what girl would ever forget her first fashion week? #PUREMAGIC
