Cruelty free classroom? I give that an A+!

Cruelty free classroom? I give that an A+!

When I’m not poring over the latest cruelty-free beauty products, or trying out a new vegetarian recipe with the husband, I’m a permanent fixture in an 8th grade English classroom. Boy is it a wild ride! We have fun days, crazy days, and we have the occasional quiet day. But what comes with middle schoolers are germs, and my cruelty-free philosophy extends into my classroom. Not a teacher? Not to worry! All of these products can work wonders in your office or home, too. I love the fact that I’m teaching some of my students about safe, sustainable, cruelty-free products. I also love that my room stays clean and safe!

Here are some products you must put on your list!

Really anything by Method Home makes my list, but this all purpose cleaner is my personal favorite.

I love the fresh grapefruit scent and I love how easily is gets through those typical classroom stains of ink, pencil, and gluesticks. This product is 100% cruelty-free and made out of natural ingredients like corn and essential oils.

During flu season, and really from September until at least April, I’m constantly wiping down my student desks and my own desk with this cleaner. A handy side-note? This cleaner also works WONDERS on stoves. :)

If I don’t have time to deep clean, I love using Jessica Alba’s Honest Company Wipes.

I know these are technically “baby” wipes, but I like using these when a student spills something or needs to wipe their hands quickly. It’s better than sending them to the lavatory only to have them miss 10 minutes of instruction.

These wipes are super soft, chemical free and plant-based. To be honest, this whole line has me excited for when there’s a mini-me running around! Nowadays there are so many kind, natural, and EFFECTIVE means of keeping everyone clean and happy!

Though those two brands are my personal favorites, there are some other amazing companies who make great products that are perfect for any classroom (or desk, cubicle, office).

Jot these down!

  • Mrs. Meyers - their air fresheners are full of delicious scents and NOT full of chemicals! The room freshener makes my classroom smell great without aggravating children’s allergies.
  • Earth Friendly Products - They make a safe, natural, and effective carpet and odor remover. I’ve used this on curtains to freshen up a room and make the fabric look new again!
  • Nubian Heritage  – Need some moisture with all of that wiping down and hand washing? I keep a tub of this stuff on my desk for myself or the kids. Long live soft hands!

    These are amazing recos, Christine!

I love the Honest Company brand and had no idea until recently that Jessica Alba started it.

What do you recommend for a cruelty-free hand sanitizer? I like to keep one in my purse and several in my pro makeup kit.

Also, which Nubian Heritage product do you love for your desk? Intern Marlena lives for all their stuff and Paul Christopher too!

    Hi Lauren! Thanks!! :)

As for a cruelty free hand sanitizer? That got tricky since Bath and Body changed their stance on animal testing. Honest Company makes a good one though! As for Nubian Heritage I love their raw shea butter with lemon grass and tea tree oil. Even my kids like it!! :)

    Great post Christine!

I use Method Home also for cleaning. It’s fab! Doesn’t give that heavy toxic and harsh chemical odor. And yes, like LC said, I’m a BIG fan of Nubian Heritage. I need to get the raw shea butter now! Have you tried the African black soap (or body wash)?

Hey! Sorry for the late reply Paul! I have not tried their African Black soap yet, but I am a big fan of their Chai Body Wash with Rosewater and their raw shea butter. I keep it in my desk at work and use it like crazy from now until April. :) How is the African Black Soap?
