So colored mascara is a thing this season and we totes think it’s fun and all, but maybe not worth investing in — especially since beauty mags are showing how easy it is to DIY.
Jess & I figured we’d give it a shot.
All we’d need was a disposable mascara wand, regular black mascara, and colored loose pigments. Check, check and check.
Here’s how it went down…
1. Dip disposable mascara wand in black mascara.
2. Roll mascara’d up disposable mascara wand over loose pigment in the color of your choice.
3. Learn quickly you should have use a Shadow Shield.
4. Dust pigment off cheek and comb through any noticeable clumps on lashes.
5. Enjoy (sort of) sparkly purple lashes.
VERDICT: This process is quick and easy but kind of a mess (at least how we attempted it, which by the way, is exactly how it’s detailed in our favorite beauty magazine!) and in the end, the color is super subtle, which isn’t exactly a bad thing. It only appears purple-ish when it bounces light at certain angles, which is actually pretty and a more sophisticated take on the trend.
As a makeup artist, if I wanted extreme color, I would instead use a mini fan brush and simply paint on long-wear, waterproof liquid, gel or cream liner in extreme shades on top of and underneath the lashes. Most likely using MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Cream or even the MAKE UP FOR EVER Flash Palette, custom mixing the color.
