InternDIVA: Skin Update!

InternDIVA: Skin Update!

Since my discovery of the incredible skin care brand, Nubian Heritage, I have been able to maintain partial control over my skin ailments. As some of you may already know, for years I have struggled to find products that would agree with my highly sensitive skin. Being so prone to break outs and irritations, I have been unable to explore a number of facial products, including face lotions, make up and even face washes, without my skin negatively reacting. However, the Nubian Heritage products, specifically the African Black Soap, have enabled my skin to develop the natural, healthy glow I have been constantly craving!

With the personal success I have found with Nubian Heritage, a little skin update seems appropriate! To give an idea of what my skin looks like naturally, I wanted to share some pictures of my face without any make up. While I do still experience occasional blemishes, typically from hormonal break outs or high levels of stress (that time of the semester is upon us once again – #FINALS), my skin has remained relatively clear. Though I know how frustrating and self-conscious breaks outs and dark marks can make some of us feel, something I’ve found to be important is to let your skin breathe! The temptation to cover my skin with face make up undoubtedly lingers in the back of my mind – however, I always try to remind myself that giving my skin a break will be beneficial in the long run.

With the exception of an occasional lunch date or in-class presentation, I usually try to avoid wearing any face make up during the weekdays. Though I have grown a level of comfort with my skin ailments through personal acceptance, I without a doubt understand the feelings of insecurity that come with skin imperfections. Two products that I have also found to work really well with my skin are Physicians Formula Bronze Booster Glow-Boosting Beauty Balm BB Bronzer and Sarah McNamara’s Miracle Skin Transformer Treat and Conceal. For the times I do choose to wear face make up, these two products are 100% my go-to’s! My skin typically breaks out within 30 minutes of wearing certain facial products, however both of these goodies are gentle on my skin, and I have yet to experience any negative reactions while using either.

The Miracle Skin Transformer concealer effectively covers any imperfections I wish to “erase” for the time being. The price for this concealer ranges from $20.00-$36.00, depending where you purchase it. This treatment enhanced concealer can be found online or in stores at retailers including Ulta and Nordstrom!

As for the Physicians Formula Bronzer, my face is able to obtain a sun-kissed glow without any irritation. It comes in two different shades, light-medium and medium-dark (maintaining a medium skin tone year round, I went with the medium-dark shade). The bronzer retails from $11.00-$14.00, and is available at your local drug stores.

Though both the concealer and the bronzer were given to me by LDiva to experiment with over the summer, both of these little skin saviors are easily accessible! Along with the African Black Soap, I have found great success with both of these make up products. When desired, I am now able to cover my skin ailments without the negative reaction!

After years of battling with my skin, something I have come to terms with is that no one is perfect (so cliché, I know). Everyone is different, therefore, everyone’s SKIN is different!! Everyone deserves to feel beautiful and confident in the skin their in. Again, I know how cliché that sounds, but it’s the truth. The African Black Soap, along with the concealer and bronzer, have enabled me to take better control of my facial flaws, allowing my confidence to flourish. For those of you who have struggled to maintain clear skin, trust me when I say I have felt your pain!! While my skin is far from impeccable, I have grown an acceptance for my imperfections, and I hope that all of these products help any of you Divas who wish to kick these ailments to the curb!

I usually wash my face 2-3 times a day, depending on my activity. It’s super affordable and has worked really well for me, I highly recommend it! I hope it helps :)
